IPA is perfectly skin safe. It's the alcohol used in alcohol swabs used before injections/minor (office) surgical procedures.

Really ingenious way of testing! This channel is the most scientific of all fountain pen channels! As of a casual fountain pen user, I will probably not do any substantial changes to my pens, so the numbers for the modified pens do not give me an idea, other that, obviously, an out-of-the-box Noodlers's Ahab will not do better than what is shown here. A very small suggestion, if you ever want to do an update of this video, maybe you can measure the weight you put down while writing with the strongest force to get the largest flex from each pen. I suspect that for this reading, the Ahab would have the highest value.

thank you for doing all these videos! Even though you have finished the giveaway I still have a topic idea for a future video or series of videos. As you dabble in tunning and modifying nibs and pens, how about DIY/making a fountain pen?

I wish I had seen videos like this or read more Reddit comments before I bought my first bottle of Baystate Blue. It's a beautiful color, but the wetness combined with the staining makes it difficult to use. I've had the bottle for around 8 years now and have barely used a quarter of it. And every time I do use the ink, it creates a huge mess. Gorgeous ink, terrible experience.

What converter is that?

I would have tried peroxide since it's UV activated. Or can those pens be cleaned with peroxide?

Hi! What grease would you put on the threads of fountain pens? Would it be different if it’s metal on metal threads, versus plastic on metal?

Very, very few flexible nibs can flex safely beyond 2 mm. I would not push any of these nibs to the nearly 3 mm you have. This can cause work hardening of the nib which causes stress fractures when pressure is applied, which causes these nibs to crack.

If you'd used a very fine nib, some blotter paper, or both, you wouldn't have needed to use a non-fountain pen.

Some vintage flex fountain pen nibs are so soft that you would destroy them with the amount of pressure you're using in this video. It's not a good idea to use a one size fits all approach to testing how flexible these nibs are by using the same amount of pressure when writing with them. Some vintage nibs are able to withstand a considerable amount of pressure, and others aren't.

I have a 14k ultra flex nib from FPR and I have a still ultra flex from them and I can tell a huge difference in softness

I have three the Amber Marine, blue and silver/black. They are lovely and write so smoothly.

I only use medium nibs and a smaller number of fine nibs. So I only need the widths for fine and medium nibs. By the way, I love your videos. I have a few Pelikan 140s each with its own nib cut. There are so many varieties of nib offered for the 140s. Semi-flex is a great balance for regular use. The full flex is gorgeous to use, but it is a very fine nib and you have to watch your up strokes. Their regular nib no flex is such a great writer. You really can't go wrong with the 140. I will say though, the piston parts are fine and force should never be used when servicing the pen. Do your research and you won't have issues.

Another great video DB. I have a couple of pens with what is billed as flex nibs, but nothing like the one vintage I already have or the ones you used in the video. I do, however, have another vintage Waterman's Ideal 14 eyedropper on the way. This pen is close to 124 yrs. old. It should be pretty interesting to write with.

I bought my Lamy 2000 as my first gold nib pen earlier this year based on the research that it is generally the smoothest pen out there. (Especially on Clairefontaine paper with very wet ink.) That turned out to be true for me, even using Chou Kuro on Midori/Muji paper. The Lamy 2000 was so good, it actually spoiled my expectations of my blue titanium ensso pocket Italia and the Ultem ensso Italia (though I love the look and design of the Ultem model) I just received today. The Bock nibs feel like garbage compared to the Lamy and even my Pilot Explorer which was only $30. I'm not unhappy with the ensso pens, which were great with the 35% off price, but the nibs and feeds are plain underwhelming. Now I have to decide if I want to take them to a 12000 grit strop or see about a nib upgrade. Unfortunately, the cost to upgrade the nibs might be near the parity of buying a Pilot e95s. Or I could buy the steel Lamy 2000...

if the magna carta 650 es all black I would think of buying one, but fountain pens in those weird color ain't for me, but out of that, love the design and the way it writes

I know nothing of ink and pens but it is a beautiful color. And its horrifying capilary action reminds me of ultra high sensitivity flourescent penetrant. Bet you could use this and isopropyl to find cracks in your tools. Might stain though. 😂 amazing video!

In terms of modern flex pens, the one by BlueDew needs to be added to the lineup! At $88 USD, it's a step between FPR and Magna Carta in price

I took a chance as I hate flex nibs. This one on the other hand is spectacular. I can't wait to see Herin at the SF Pen Show to congratulate him on a job well done. Thank you for your videos. About a year go you convinced me to get the R615 and it is my favorite, once again you’ve influenced me and my next pen will be that Mag 650
